Pontilly Neighborhood Stormwater Network (Phase I) uses green infrastructure to reduce flood risk and beautifies green spaces in the Pontchartrain Park and Gentilly Woods neighborhoods. Completed in 2021, this project is the first large-scale green infrastructure project completed in the City of New Orleans.

Completed in January 2022, the Claiborne Avenue Vision to Reality Stormwater Park (Phase I) demonstrates the commitment and strength of community-based organizations to realize a more resilient New Orleans. This project was developed by Healthy Community Services and Groundwork New Orleans, and managed by Groundwork and LA Green Corps.

Gretna City Park is the first completed pilot project of the Louisiana’s Strategic Adaptations for Future Environments (LA SAFE) program. Landscape features provide 6.5 million gallons of stormwater storage from surrounding streets and homes.

Substantially completed in 2013, renovations to Wally Pontiff Playground in Jefferson Parish introduced stormwater detention ponds on the 42-acre property to hold stormwater during heavy rain events that would have previously flooded surrounding neighborhoods.

On December 11, 2023, the City of New Orleans broke ground on Mirabeau Water Gardens, a signature green infrastructure project aimed at reducing street flooding by diverting stormwater runoff into new lagoons on a 25-acre parcel in Gentilly. This project is the first of seven demonstration projects prescribed by the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan to begin construction.
